These last four images tell a story of a crass endeavor.

An endeavor that not only sought to replace its human workers with an innocuously named robot, but one that asked those same humans to pose with said robot.

Is this just an impromptu lock devised by an exhausted manager who forgot his keys at home? Are the CaliBurgers, fine-tuned by Flippy, selling so dang fast that this manager can barely keep up with the demanding pace of this wildly successful robostraunt?

No. And I don’t know if it’s the robostraunt’s seemingly A-I generated name, or the hubris in thinking that people would celebrate Flippy, or the fact that the logo mimics In-N-Out’s in an attempt to siphon off some of the goodwill the Snyder family (In-N-Out owners) have spent the last seventy-four years accruing, but it’s hard not to savor the failure of CaliBurger. In an age when no one would argue that the robots/tech-lord’s aren’t winning, it’s nice to see a rare win for the humans. Pick a coal from the fire and scratch one hashmark on the cave wall. I close my eyes and see a Terminator exploding.
